The term pH stands for “potential of hydrogen” and measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is, on a scale of 0 to 14:
A pH of 7 is neutral.
Below 7 is acidic (more hydrogen ions, H⁺).
Above 7 is alkaline or basic (more hydroxide ions, OH⁻).
For coir, the pH usually falls between 5.5 and 6.5, which is slightly acidic to neutral—perfect for most plants.
