ABOUT THIS ITEM
Product Details
Six manageable portions — The pack contains six 650g bricks, each producing approximately 10 litres after hydration. Prepare the number you need and keep the remaining bricks dry.
Washed coconut coir — Made from coconut husk and washed to reduce soluble salts. Washing is a different process from buffering; choose the preparation your growing system requires.
Mix for your plants — Use as a component in suitable pot, basket or raised-bed mixes. Add coarser coir chips or other components when the planting needs a more open structure.
Hydrate before planting — Place each brick in a tub with room to expand. Add water gradually, following the pack directions, then loosen thoroughly until moisture and texture are even.
Add a suitable feeding plan — Coir is a growing-medium base, not a complete fertiliser programme. Match the feed to your plants and stage of growth, following the fertiliser label.
Store the rest for later — Keep unused bricks dry and sheltered until your next project. Once hydrated, protect unused coir from contamination and move it in manageable portions.

How to use
Prepare, use and care for your substrate.
1Choose your batch
Select one or more bricks. Place in a tub with enough room for each brick to expand to around 10 litres.
2Hydrate and loosen
Add water gradually following the pack. Allow expansion, then loosen until no compacted areas remain.
3Blend and plant
Choose a mix suited to the plant. Fill a draining pot or basket and position your plants at the correct depth.
4Water and feed
Water in and allow surplus to drain. Use a separate feed appropriate to the plant and stage of growth.
5Store and maintain
Keep unused dry bricks sheltered. Check moisture in planted pots and adjust care as conditions change.
PRACTICAL PREPARATION
Handling & storage
-
Prepare one brick at a time
Each dry brick weighs 650g, so you can choose a smaller batch. Hydrated coir is heavier; move it in portions that suit you.
-
Set up within reach
Use a stable tub at a comfortable working height. Place water and tools nearby before starting your planting project.
-
Save space between projects
Store unused bricks dry and prepare more when needed. Adults can supervise children during hydration and planting.

Product FAQ
Do I have to hydrate all six bricks?
No. Hydrate one or more bricks as required and keep the unused bricks dry. Each brick produces approximately 10 litres of loosened coir.
How much does the whole pack make?
The six bricks produce approximately 60 litres in total. Final volume depends on hydration and how thoroughly you loosen the material.
Are these bricks the same as buffered coir?
Washing and buffering are different treatments. These bricks are sold as washed coir. If your system requires calcium-buffered coir, choose a product specified for that purpose.
Do I need to feed my plants?
Yes, plan suitable nutrition. Coir provides the growing-medium base; use a feed matched to your plant and growth stage, following the fertiliser instructions.
Can I use coir chips in the mix?
Coir chips can help create a more open structure when used in a suitable blend. Choose the balance around the plant, pot size and watering regime rather than a universal ratio.
Can children use the bricks for a school project?
They can be used for supervised planting activities. An adult should manage preparation, water and tools. Keep work surfaces stable, avoid breathing dust and wash hands after handling growing media.
