Choose the container and mix
Use drainage holes and enough root space. In a suitable blended mix, coarse coir chips can create larger air spaces and support drainage while retaining some moisture internally. The result depends on particle sizes, proportions and pot depth. Mix chips throughout the growing medium rather than adding a bottom drainage layer.
Prepare and plant
Expand compressed products fully using pack instructions. Loosen and mix evenly before planting, leaving watering space below the rim. Keep the plant at its appropriate planting depth.
Check, water and feed
Check moisture within the root zone, not just at the dry-looking surface. Adjust to weather and plant growth. Check whether the compost contains fertiliser and follow the recommended feeding programme.
