COIROLOGY GROWING GUIDES
For many commonly grown orchids, air around the roots matters as much as moisture. Start by identifying the orchid and the growing medium it needs.

A PRACTICAL GUIDE
A moth orchid and a terrestrial orchid do not necessarily need the same compost. Check species guidance before changing the medium.
For orchids needing an open root zone, coir chips can provide coarse structure, air spaces and moisture within the particles. Use horticultural-grade chips, prepare as directed and select a particle size suited to the roots. Assess the finished blend’s drying behaviour; chips are not suitable for every orchid.
Use a suitable orchid pot and avoid packing the medium tightly around the roots. Repot when the existing material breaks down or the plant requires it, following the orchid’s growth cycle.
Water for the orchid and conditions, then allow excess water to drain. Do not leave the pot standing in water. Use an appropriate orchid feed at the label rate; coarse chips do not provide a complete nutrient supply.
CHOOSE FOR YOUR APPLICATION
We currently offer a coir-chip component, not a complete orchid compost. Many common moth orchids need a bark-based medium; confirm suitability before changing the mix.
Coarse amendment

A component for suitable orchid blends, not a complete orchid compost. Match chip size, companion materials and watering to the orchid; chips retain moisture as well as creating coarse structure.
